Mid-Century Modern
Trolley Tour
Modernizing Austin: A growing city embraces the postwar modern era.
Hop aboard a tour of mid-century modern Austin on an elegantly restored Dillo Trolley. This unique tour of downtown Austin will focus on post WWII architecture and design that is now becoming historically significant. Highlights include a special private tour of the Seaholm Power Plant.
Use plentiful street parking to start the tour at Scholz Beer Garden. Board the Trolley around 6:00 p.m. for departure and arrive back at around 8:00 p.m. (Stay for dinner if you'd like). There will be a designated driver and fabulous docent, so feel free to BYOB on the Trolley (beer and wine are allowed!) and kick back and enjoy the ride. Please bring only small coolers as space will be limited on the Trolley.

Seaholm Power Plant: A Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (2007), Seaholm was constructed between 1950 and 1955 and is an architectural icon on Austins Lady Bird Lake. Though industrial and utilitarian in nature, the power plant features Art Moderne detailing common in municipal facilities of this era, yet remains distinctive for its site-cast concrete construction unusual at a time when many similar facilities were constructed of structural steel.
